In what ways
does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
When as a group we
started to look at different film genres in preparation for our title sequence,
we looked at many film genres and the conventions of each of those genres. We
first looked at horror and that how there would always be a killer and normally
this surrounds a young group of college kids and then turns out one of the kids
was actually involved, we then looked at rom-coms and this would normally have
young attractive people falling in love but there would always be something
separating them from coming together. We then looked at fantasy and how that
would maybe tie into a rom com
and this is how we came up with the original
idea for the film putting two genres together. We then looked at how we could
maybe turn this idea into a musical, this idea went well with the two genres
that were chosen because were rom coms can contain some drama turning this idea
into a musical gave us so many more ideas into storylines because the
characters could then sing about the drama that is unfolding before them. We
then started to look at similar films that would tie into our idea.
We looked at a film
called freaky Friday, we can relate to this film with our idea because this
film deals with a body shop and how mother and daughter realize how the other
one lives this blends into the magical and fantasy idea we had for our idea
because in our film we have a character who wants to change the way she lives
this then causes her to live in an alternate universe where she can be who she
wanted to be.
How does your
media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product
represents different social groups because we are aiming it at a certain target
audience, this target audience is people who are interested in the fantasy
genre and who enjoy musicals. We wanted to also bring in a larger social group
by changing the storyline into one that many could enjoy because our film is
about finding who you are and that your don’t really want everything you wish
for.
Who would be
your audience for your media Product?
Our target audience is
16-40 year olds, this is because our film connotes the way in which someone of
the older generation lives but wanting to wish she could change her life and
believing that her past has something to do with the fact that she hasn’t got
the future she wanted, I believe we chose a suitable age range because the
older teens can relate to the film because there just starting to realize what
they want to do for there future and this film can show that not everything is
at it seems.
What kind of
media institution might distribute your media product and why?
As a group we chose Metro
Goldwyn Mayer. We chose this distribution company becasue they have distributed
a number of films that we believe can relate to the target audience that we are
aiming our film at. The have distributed films such as:
•
• The Pink Panther
• The Pink Panther 2
• Your Mine and Ours
• Agent Cody Banks
• Agent Cody Banks 2
• James Bond
I think they
would be interest in distributing our film because as through my research i
have notice that they haven’t produced a film where a character may go into an
alternate universe so this film could be a first for them.
How did
you attract/address your audience?
We attracted our audience
in many different ways. We then attracted our audience by the star actress
Idina Menzel, she is an actress in many films and is also a star on Broadway.
We then attracted another range of audience by the effect we used on our title
sequence, which was stop motion.
